“…Giesma stain, x 3.5. lar tumor in the anterior hypothalamic region which invaded the floor of the third ventricle, the pituitary stalk and large portions of the pituitary gland with almost complete replacement of the neurohypophysis and both infiltration and compression of the adenohypophysis. The histology of this tumor was that of a germinoma or so-called ectopic anisomorphic pinealoma of the two-cell type; its light and electron microscopial identity to the seminomas and dysgerminomas of the gonads is now well docu mented [G hatak et al, 1969;Warczok and Arnold, 1972;O swald and H ed in g er, 1972;T abuchi et al, 1973;J ellinger, 1973], In patients suffering from ectopic pinealomas or lesions of hypothal amic area adipsia was previously reported by several authors [Christie and Ross, 1968;G oldberg et al, 1967;K astin et al, 1965;M addy and W internitz, 1972;L ascelles and Lew is, 1972; T runigr and Kunzler, 1962; Sohn and P ittman, 1972], It was observed that a state of transient stimulation of the thirst center accompanied by polydipsia and polyuria can precede a state of absence of thirst [Truniger and K unzler, 1962]. We assume that a similar mechanism took place in the patient during the time of anamnestic polydipsia.…”
