“…9 Structural studies of strongly nonstoichiometric fluorite-type crystals with REE-enriched defect clusters have resulted in a universal model of nonstoichiometry. 10 More than two thousand papers have been published on the topic of high-temperature chemistry of 16 REE trifluorides since 1976 (together with IC RAS), summarized in reviews 7,8,[11][12][13][14][15] and others. None of the authors of the cited papers had a compound of a single member of the LnF 3 homologous series -PmF 3 .…”

Fig. A2.The crystal structures of the members of ( Eux ) n ( Ixi ) m -polysomatic series.
In general, the structure containing only Eux -modules ( n = 1, m = 0) is characterised by a highly distorted fluorite-type topology (Sulyanova and Sobolev, 2022). However, a direct link between two Eux -modules seems unlikely because of the considerable distortion of the A O 8 polyhedra (torsion angles in the polyhedra between the oxygen atoms of the adjacent hcp layers vary from 17° to 62°), accompanied by corresponding distortions of the oxygen layers.…”
