“…In our experience imaginal desensitization or flooding has not proved very helpful in cases of vomit phobia, although there are reports of successful imaginal desensitization of thunder and lightning phobias (Hoenig and Reed, 1966;Furst and Cooper, 1970). There are also reports of successful treatment of thunder and lightning phobias with desensitization to simulated conditions using tape recorded sound effects and synchronized flash lamps (Leitenberg^tf/., 1975;Ost, 1978), and in one case, simulated thunder and lightning in a planetarium (Lubetkin, 1975). The technique described here arose from attempts to extend such simulation to allow a form of in vivo exposure for "vomit" phobias.…”
