The Use of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality Technologies in Teaching Foreign Languages

Abstract: The article is devoted to analyzing the educational potential of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies in teaching foreign languages, specifically in the professional training of future teachers. The possibility and benefits of introducing AR technologies in the system of teachers’ professional training are based on the experience of the discipline «Modern Technologies of Teaching a Foreign Language to Preschool Children», which is taught during the first (bachelor's) level of education … Show more

“…The adoption of these technologies requires not only technical readiness but also pedagogical support to make them an integral part of the educational process. Also, most of these researchers point out that augmented reality technologies in education open up new opportunities for innovation and development (Nazarenko, 2015;Rudnik, 2023;Salinas, 2017;Soberanes-Martín, 2021), which generally coincides with the results of this study. However, for their effective implementation, it is important to provide support for teachers and students, as well as to take into account technical, organisational, and financial aspects.…”

“…The findings of the study are in line with Rudnik (2023) that AR programmes provide a virtual experience, but the financial costs required for their implementation should be taken into account, which can be significant (Ducasse, 2020;Truitt & Ku, 2018). In addition, learners may experience difficulties in transitioning from traditional teaching methods to AR (Truitt & Ku, 2018).…”

“…Within the field of language education, the integration of AR and VR technologies has shown remarkable potential for enhancing the learning environment, boosting student motivation, and promoting interactive learning. By providing a rich multimedia experience, VR and AR facilitate improved visualization and comprehension of language concepts [14]. Additionally, these technologies can be harnessed to create immersive language learning scenarios, enabling students to practice language skills within realistic and interactive virtual environments.…”
