his colleagues deserve congratulations for their innovative use of pericardium in a diffi cult group of patients. 1 The use of fresh autologous pericardium for this purpose and the technique employed was fi rst described by us in 1988. 2 We also recently published long-term follow up data with continued survival of the patient. 3 It is surprising that these studies have not been referred to by the authors. The fate of pericardium in this situation was at fi rst questioned, however our observations over a 13-year period proved that it is satisfactory in annular repair.
