The Use of Drones in the Spatial Social Sciences

Abstract: Drones are increasingly becoming a ubiquitous feature of society. They are being used for a multiplicity of applications for military, leisure, economic, and academic purposes. Their application in academia, especially as social science research tools, has seen a sharp uptake in the last decade. This has been possible due, largely, to significant developments in computerization and miniaturization, which have culminated in safer, cheaper, lighter, and thus more accessible drones for social scientists. Despite … Show more

“…Many students try to avoid or minimize information overload by focusing and picking up what is important to them (Yepes et al, 2022). However, in the process of selective listening or watching, some students end up distracted by other elements leading to a loss of attention (Hall & Wahab, 2021). Some students can hardly concentrate due to other challenges such as learning disabilities or external distractions in the learning environment.…”

“…With the wide application of UAVs in many fields such as remote sensing and geological exploration, search and rescue, agriculture and forestry, and film and media production [1], the applicable scenarios of UAVs have been expanding, and the frequency of their use has been increasing. It is necessary to ensure the accuracy of emergency autonomous landing when UAVs respond to sudden emergencies such as low battery power and signal loss during flight.…”

“…Innovative applications of modern unmanned aerial systems (UAS) technology are rapidly influencing a wide range of research, development, military, work, school, and hobby realms [1][2][3][4][5]. Given the widespread use of professional and non-professional UAShereafter referred to simply as "drones"-there is considerable interest in determining how people best learn to fly and use drones [6].…”
