“…The inset in the lower left shows two processes thought to influence many groundwater dissolved inorganic carbon isotope compositions: (i) the aging of groundwater during storage in aquifer systems (decreasing 14 C with no change in δ 13 C) and (ii) the dissolution of marine carbonates (mixing trend towards δ 13 C ≈ 0 ‰ PDB and 14 C ≈ 0 pmC). The global groundwater dissolved inorganic δ 13 C versus 14 C trend lies intermediate to values expectedly arising from each of these two processes, implying they may be dominant controls on global groundwater dissolved inorganic carbon isotope compositions (e.g., see figures by Azzaz et al, , and Herrera et al, ).…”

“…Les régimes des écoulements dans le bassin de la Tafna ont été analysés par plusieurs auteurs (Adjim 2004, Bouanani 2004, Azzaz et al 2008. L'irrégularité et l'hétérogénéité spatiale des régimes pluviométriques ont souvent été mises en avant comme étant la cause principale de la variation de l'écoulement dans le bassin de la Tafna.…”

“…For groundwater supply to be managed sustainably, its origin and flow regimes (e.g., Scalon et al 2006), renewability (Leduc et al 1996;Houston 2007;Shivanna et al 2008), and relative age (Kazemi et al 2006), are imperative requirements. The isotopic compositions of oxygen and hydrogen (Azzaz et al 2008) and spatial evolution of major ions (Kebede et al 2005), have been used as relevant and useful tracers in determining the movement of groundwater, whose origin has been attributed to rainfall and bank infiltration during high flows in semi arid regions of Mongolia (Tsujimura et al 2007), and northeastern Nigeria (Edmunds et al 2002), respectively. Moreover, groundwater movement is also governed by topography, which influences the occurrence of either a local, intermediate or regional flow system (Rodgers et al 2005).…”
