The Use of High Frequency Vibration and Clear Aligners in Management of an Adult Patient with Class III Skeletal Malocclusion with Open Bite and Severe Bimaxillary Protrusion: Case Report

Abstract: Adult orthodontic patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion, open bite and bimaxillary dentoalveolar protrusion are complex problems that normally require surgical intervention to correct. This is a report of an adult female with a skeletal Class III jaw relationship; in addition, the patient had anterior open bite and bimaxillary dentoalveolar protrusion. The patient also had three premolars in the lower left quadrant. Treatment involved extracting the extra premolar distal to lower left canine, retractio… Show more

“…In addition, the appearance of bone labial to lower incisors after moving them lingually in almost all cases supports the stimulatory effect of HFV on bone formation. This is in agreement with a pervious case report [ 28 ]. Due to the relatively wide range of patients’ ages presented in this study, results should be interpreted with care; however, the very short treatment time in younger patients (Cases 3, 4) compared to cases 1 and 2 is also in agreement with the previous report that regular orthodontic treatment time is longer with the patient’s increasing age.…”

“…For this reason, to maintain high levels of cooperation, it is necessary to solve the problem of anterior crowding from the first aligner. Many case reports have demonstrated the possibility of achieving molar sequential distalization in patients with the Invisalign ® system [ 45 , 46 , 47 , 48 ].…”

“…However, as Proffit mentions, their treatment is possible with the use of auxiliaries and a combined approach [11]. This is supported by a study conducted by El-Bialy, which concluded the same [15]. The hybrid approach, using high-frequency vibration and clear aligners, made it possible to treat a severe case of an adult patient with class III skeletal malocclusion, open bite, and bimaxillary protrusion.…”
