The Use of Pulsed Modes in the Electrochemical Polishing of Corrosion-Resistant Steels

Abstract: However, the ECP in its classical form has a number of significant drawbacks. One of them is a dependence of treatment modes and electrolyte compositions on the processed material. In addition, aggressive expensive electrolytes that require special technologies for disposal are used for ECP. Electrolytes in ECP often require heating to a temperature of 60–90 °C. Processing at such temperatures causes significant harm to the environment and production personnel. To eliminate the existing disadvantages of the EC… Show more

“…Thus, it becomes possible to high-quality polishing in electrolytes without the addition of toxic components such as fluorides, methanol and chromic anhydride. So, earlier in our work [26], it was established that the use of pulse modes in the process of ECP provides a significant decrease in surface roughness with a small removal of metal. The highest values of the efficiency of smoothing microroughness, defined as the ratio of the change in roughness ∆Ra to metal mass Δm removal, are achieved for the bipolar pulse mode at a current density of i = 0.75 А/cm 2 and for a unipolar pulse mode at an anode current density of i a = 1.0 А/cm 2 .…”
