Telecommunication technologies have been used to bring healthcare expertise to the point of care since the 19th century. In 1878, The Lancet reported the use of the telephone to reduce unnecessary physician visits and, in 1910, a tele-stethoscope had already been described.1 During the mid-20th century, NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) used remote monitoring systems to measure astronauts’ physiological functions. The Space Technology Applied to Rural Papago Advanced Health Care project further developed this field with the Papago Indians in the southwestern U.S.2 However, the greatest strides in remote monitoring technologies for telehealth have occurred over the last 10 years, with a growing evidence base showing their effectiveness in the management of chronic disease.

Zusammenfassung Hintergrund: Derzeit sind bereits viele Applikationen (Apps) auch f?r ophthalmologische Anwendungen, darunter u.?a. f?r die Farbsehtestung, verf?gbar. Es gibt allerdings bis jetzt keine Farbsehtest-App, die durch klinische Studien auf einem Tablet-PC evaluiert ist. Methode: Unter standardisierten Testbedingungen wurden Farbsehtests mittels HMC-Anomaloskop und 19 Velhagen/Broschmann/Kuchenbecker-Farbtafeln unter Verwendung eines Tablet-PCs (iPad2?) durchgef?hrt. Dabei wurden die Tafeln abwechselnd als Erstes mittels Buch (Pigmentfarbtafeln) oder mittels Tablet-PC (iPad?) pr?sentiert. Es wurden insgesamt 77 freiwillige Probanden untersucht. 62 Probanden waren farbnormal und 15 m?nnliche Probanden wiesen eine Farbsehst?rung auf. Es wurde die ?bereinstimmung und das 95?%-Konfidenzintervall bestimmt. Ergebnisse: Das Durchschnittsalter aller Probanden (n?=?77) betrug 42,8???16,9 Jahre. Der mittlere Nahvisus aller Probanden betrug 0,99???0,15. Die ?bereinstimmung der Ergebnisse aller Probanden von Buch und Tablet-PC betrug 88,0?%. Das 95?%-Konfidenzintervall reichte von 81,6 bis 89,6?%. Bei den Probanden mit Farbsehst?rungen (n?=?15) bestand eine ?bereinstimmung von 83,3?%. Das 95?%-Konfidenzintervall reichte von 78,4 bis 87,3?%. Bei den Probanden ohne Farbsehst?rung (n?=?62) bestand eine ?bereinstimmung von 89,1?%. Das 95?%-Konfidenzintervall reichte von 87,1 bis 90,8?%. Die ?berlappung der Fehleranzahl von Farbnormalen und Farbfehlsichtigen lag beim Buch bei 2 Fehlern und beim Tablet PC bei 5 Fehlern. Schlussfolgerungen: Bei der Untersuchung des Farbsehens mittels Buch und Tablet-PC konnten nur in etwa vergleichbare Ergebnisse erzielt werden. Die Trennsch?rfe des Buches war besser und die Tafeln wiesen eine unterschiedliche Eignung auf, sodass nur einige Tafeln auf einem Tablet-PC Verwendung finden k?nnten.

Desarrollo de nuevo test para diagnosticar y graduar alteraciones en la visión de colores Development of a new test to diagnose and determine the degree of color vision disordershttp://eoftalmo.org.br RESUMO Objetivo: Verificar a capacidade de um novo teste em identificar indivíduos portadores ou não de discromatopsia e graduar seu distúrbio, tendo como base de comparação o teste padrão de Ishihara. Métodos: Quinze imagens criadas para o diagnóstico de discromatopsia foram utilizadas no desenvolvimento do novo teste. A partir dessas, eficazes no diagnóstico de discromatopsia, foram criadas120 imagens numéricas com graduações crescentes de -10% a +40% da cor verde em cada um dos números. Essas imagens foram distribuídas em 15 páginas, impressas e apresentadas aos indivíduos testados, que deveriam identificar o número visualizado em cada uma das imagens. Resultados: Avaliou-se 223 indivíduos, sendo 130 do sexo feminino e 93 do sexo masculino. Cinco indivíduos do sexo masculino foram diagnosticados com discromatopsia, com 62,6% de erros de identificação das 135 imagens apresentadas, enquanto os demais apresentaram, em média, 5,04% de erros. A variação na graduação da cor verde nos números das imagens apresentadas não permitiu mensurar o grau de discromatopsia. Conclusão: A porcentagem de indivíduos diagnosticados com discromatopsia foi menor que o esperado. Não foi possível graduar a discromatopsia com o teste criado, porém, com o software desenvolvido, será possível criar novos testes para diagnosticar e graduar a discromatopsia. ABSTRACTObjective: To verify the capacity of a new test in identifying individuals with and without dyschromatopsia and to measure their disturbance, based on Ishi-hara's standard test. Methods: Fifteen computer-generated images for the di-agnosis of dyschromatopsia were used to create a new test. These images proved to be helpful in the diagnosis of dyschromatopsia, and they were used as the basis for an additional 120 images of numbers that were created with increasing gradients of −10% to +40% green hue in each of the numbers. These images were distributed across 15 pages, printed and presented to the participants, wich should identify the number displayed on each of the images. Results: A total of 223 individuals were evaluated, 130 of whom were females and 93 of whom were males. Five male subjects were diagnosed with dyschro-matopsia, with errors in the identification of an average of 62.6% of the 135 images presented. The other male subjects had a mean error rate of 5.04%. The variation in green hue intensity in the numbers presented in the images did not allow for the measurement of the degree of dyschromatopsia. Conclusion: The percentage of individuals diagnosed with dyschromatopsia was lower than expected. It was not possible to determine the degree of dyschromatopsia us-ing the test created herein.
