The Use of Supported Acidic Ionic Liquids in Organic Synthesis

Abstract: Abstract:Catalysts obtained by the immobilisation of acidic ionic liquids (ILs) on solid supports offer several advantages compared to the use of catalytically active ILs themselves. Immobilisation may result in an increase in the number of accessible active sites of the catalyst and a reduction of the amount of the IL required. The ionic liquid films on the carrier surfaces provide a homogeneous environment for catalytic reactions but the catalyst appears macroscopically as a dry solid, so it can simply be se… Show more

“…[3][4][5][6] Since proton transfer is a common chemical transformation, Brønsted acidic ILs receive research attention especially for acid catalysts, fuel cells, biomass processing, polymerization, CO 2 fixation, etc. 6,[14][15][16][17][18][19] The design of stronger Brønsted acidic ILs and evaluation of the acidity in ILs are important for exploring their possible applications as media for acid-base reactions.…”

“…In this context, ionic liquids (IL) which were added to the principles of "Green Chemistry" have recently been increasingly employed because of their advantages such as their alternative solvent and catalytic ability, the similarity with organic compounds and metal-organic catalysts, and easy separation ability from the reaction product. So they were investigated individually ( [23,27,28,31]. The articles of recent years confirm that ionic liquids make a great interest in various petrochemical and alkylation processes [20,29,36].…”
