The increasing impacts of climate and land use change directly impact habitat quality and biodiversity. Monitoring the habitats quality can be a valuable tool for the conservation of biodiversity, as it is an indicator of biodiversity. This research work aims to ap-ply the InVEST Habitat Quality model to compare two different cases study from Portugal (Tomar) and Southern Italy (Potenza). Threats to biodiversity were considered taking into account the substantial territorial differences of the two areas considered: Tomar, an area particularly affected by forest fires-driven degradation phenomena; Potenza is, instead, an area particularly affected by the installation of wind farms. Results highlight how these tools can be considered a valuable support tool for spatial planning decisions for biodiversity conservation.

The paper presents a generalized net (GN) model of the process of terrain observation with the help of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for the prevention and rapid detection of wildfires. Using a GN, the process of monitoring a zone (through a UAV, which is further called a reconnaissance drone) and the localization of forest fires is described. For a more indepth study of the terrain, the reconnaissance drone needs to coordinate with a second UAV, called a specialized drone, so that video and sensory information is provided to the supervising fire command operational center. The proposed GN model was developed to assist in the decision-making process related to the coordination of the operation of both UAVs under dynamically changing terrain circumstances, such as those related to preventing or quickly containing wildfires. It describes the stages (transitions), logical determinants (transition predicate matrices), and directions of information flow (token characteristics) within the process of localization of fires using the pair of reconnaissance and specialized drones.

In the last two decades, there have been more forest fires than ever due to climate change. These fires affect different continents and countries around the world, including the Republic of Serbia. As forest fires have an extremely negative impact on people and the environment, different strategies are being developed to fight forest fires that include the use of modern technologies, based on information technology and artificial intelligence. One of the contemporary technologies that stand out as an important tool for fighting forest fires are unmanned aerial vehicles, which are commonly called drones. Their use is diverse and many ways of implementation can be applied in the Republic of Serbia. By applying the SWOT and TOWS matrix, four key strategies are defined, which include the production of drones, improving the technological capabilities of existing units and the situational awareness system, as well as raising public awareness of the danger of forest fires. Key elements in the further development of strategies can also be defined: prevention and monitoring of fires, building awareness among citizens about the dangers of forest fires and the benefits of using drones, as well as recognizing the technological and human capacities for the development of drones for actual firefighting.
