“…In the last decade, CaSiO 3 has been investigated for its ability to adsorb heavy metallic ions, e.g., Pb +2 , Cr +6 or Ni +2 [4,5,6]. Most recently, wollastonite has become suitable for reinforcing composites [7,8] and as a bone substitute in orthopedic applications owing to its bioactive properties [9,10]. Different methods are currently known for the production of synthetic wollastonite from various sources of calcium and silicon, e.g., synthesis via solidstate reaction [11,12], sol-gel method [13,14], hydrothermal synthesis [15], chemical precipitation [16,17], among others.…”

“…The combination of 15% wollastonite+7.5% microsilica also showed higher strength than the control mix. In a study in which wollastonite was used instead of both sand and cement, 10%, 20% and 30% wollastonite were used instead of sand and cement, thus forming seven mixtures including the control mixture [ 37 ]. The initial setting time increased by using wollastonite, but this increase had a negligible effect on cement replacement.…”

“…In addition, the mechanical properties of the 12% and 15% replacement mixtures provided better results than the control mixture. Synthetic wollastonite fills the porous structure of cement and forms a more compact mortar [ 13 , 37 , 39 ]. When natural wollastonite and synthetic wollastonite are compared, according to Figure 3 , it is observed that the optimum dosage and rate of increase are higher for synthetic wollastonite.…”

“…The increasing demand on concrete raises the alarm on the future availability of the natural aggregate resources for the coming generations, as natural aggregates were extracted by 28.6 gigatons in 2010 only and became the most extracted materials worldwide [7]. Many countries put a restriction and additional taxes on using virgin aggregate resources [8,9], so it becomes a crucial issue to find a suitable substitutional as a replacement of natural aggregate in concrete without affecting the concrete characteristics [10][11][12][13][14].…”
