The Utilization of Coconut Water Waste As A Growth Media of The In Vitro Potato Cutting

Abstract: The limited number of potato seed caused the demand The demand to be unfulfilled especially in South Sulawesi. The use of pathogen-free seeds is absolutely necessary that can be obtained through tissue culture. This study aims to determine the effect of adding coconut water on the growth of in vitro potato plant cuttings and the most effective type of treatment. This research used Varying Concentration of the coconut water, then measure its effect on potato growth (a high number of leaves and plantlets). This … Show more

“…Compared to synthetic phytohormones like GA3, it comprises a complex blend of substances that can offer a more complete and balanced nutrient profile for plant growth. Auxins, cytokinins, and gibberellins, among other growth-promoting compounds found in CW, can jointly affect different aspects of plant growth and development [23]. This encompassing effect boost a variety of tissue culture performance factors, including root length, root hairs, biomass, and node development [24].…”

“…In potato tissue culture, GA3 is the most frequently used hormone that promotes shoot elongation and multiplication of the in vitro plantlets [10]. However, the high cost and limited availability of such hormones have prompted researchers to explore alternative growth-promoting substances, such as coconut water (CW), which has shown potential as a natural substitute [11,12]. In light of these key components, this study was conducted with an aim to explore the advantages of the CW over commercially available plant growth regulators, virus elimination, and growth performance in different solidifying agents (agar vs. Clarigel) were examined in two varieties of potato; Janak Dev and Cardinal as these varieties are the most common ones for the hilly regions of Nepal.…”

“…Based on our findings, media supplemented with higher concentrations of coconut water are recommended for enhancing shoot length and the proliferation of shoots, with the optimal levels being 100 mL for shoot length and 200 mL for accelerating the number of shoots (Figure 4). Additionally, auxins, cytokinins, and gibberellins, alongside other growth-promoting compounds present in coconut water, collaboratively influence various aspects of plant growth and development [49]. This comprehensive effect enhances several factors in tissue culture performance, including root length and biomass [50].…”
