The UV absorption of substituted benzhydrols and of the corresponding 2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl ethers

Abstract

The present paper gives UV measurements on a number of substituted benzhydrols and the corresponding 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl ethers. As far as investigated, all spectra clearly demonstrate the existence of interaction between the component chromophoric parts, despite the presence of a saturated carbon atom as the connecting link. In its absorption, every asymmetrically substituted compound shows additivity with respect to its symmetrically substituted analogues.
