“…Geologically speaking, the study area is determined by craggy sandstone-made reliefs of Iberian direction from the Espadán mountain range. From a structural point of view, it infills a graben of the Upper Oligocene-Miocene age linked to the crisscrossing of orthogonal faults of Iberian orientation (northwest–southeast) with others running northeast–southwest, which produce a tectonic subsidence (Fontboté et al, 1990) that is also observed in the continental shelf (Rey and Fumanal, 1996).
