“…The findings include narrowing of the cavernous segment of the internal carotid artery, occluded superior opthalmic vein and nonvisualization of the cavernous sinus (11,13). Narrowing of the petrous segment of the internal carotid artery was also reported (14). Plain films might show erosion of the sella turcica (13,15).…”

“…It can delineate the detailed anatomical structure in the region and exclude a mass lesion infiltrating the surrounding tissue. It may reveal a convex enlargement of cavernous sinus with an abnormal tissue, being iso‐/hypointense with gray matter on T1 images and iso‐/hypo‐/hyperintense on T2 images 10,16 . This abnormal tissue markedly increases˙ in signal intensity after contrast injection.…”

“…Radiological evaluation with plain radiographic studies, orbital venography, cerebral angiography, and finally high-technology diagnostic modalities, such as CT and MRI, have been widely used to put forward the diagnosis of THS and to differentiate it from other organic lesions since the original report of Tolosa in 1954 [9,10,11,12,13,14,15].…”

“…With the widespread clinical use of MRI scans, the lesions related to the cavernous sinuses, vascular structures, cranial nerves, and neighboring neural parenchyma could have been visualized directly [3,4,12,13,15,16,19,31,33,35]. The vascular imaging studies only reveal intrinsic anatomical structures of the vessels and cavernous sinus, and moreover a normal orbital venography or cerebral angiography does not exclude the diagnosis of THS.…”
