Chrysanthemums (Chrysanthemum × morifolium) are highly valued for their ornamental and economic benefits. However, the commonly used growing medium for chrysanthemums, peat, is not renewable, and peatlands are facing depletion. Therefore, it is important to find sustainable alternatives to peat. This study aims to evaluate the potential of rice husks and leaf mold mixed with peat and perlite in different ratios (10–20–30–40–80% v/v/v/v) as substitute materials for peat in chrysanthemum production. The study examines the physical and chemical properties of the different growing media ratios, as well as their effects on plant growth, development, and physiological indicators. The results of the experiment demonstrate that the different ratios of the cultivation substrate significantly influence the physical and chemical properties of the growing medium, as well as the growth and physiological indicators of chrysanthemums. A 20–30% proportion of rice husks and leaf mold promotes the growth and photosynthetic activity of chrysanthemum cuttings, resulting in increased plant height, leaf area, total chlorophyll content, and net photosynthetic rate. The mixed substrates (10–40%) maintain suitable pH levels, electrical conductivity (EC), and nutrient content (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium). However, an 80% ratio of rice husks negatively affects plant survival and growth due to elevated EC and potassium levels. In conclusion, a peat medium containing 20% rice husks and leaf mold provides a more favorable cultivation substrate for producing high-quality chrysanthemums while promoting sustainable horticultural practices.

This community service activity has been conducted in Labuan Lelea Village, Labuan District, Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, in collaboration with the local farming community. They face challenges regarding how to utilize cattle manure waste as environmentally friendly organic fertilizer. The objective of this community service is: 1) To provide knowledge to the farming community in Labuan Lelea Village on how to utilize cattle manure waste as organic fertilizer, as a substitute for inorganic fertilizers, which are known for their chemical content, scarcity, and fluctuating prices annually; 2) To promote organic fertilizers as an environmentally friendly alternative to inorganic fertilizers in agricultural lands; 3) To enhance the knowledge of farming communities regarding the effective utilization of cattle manure waste as organic fertilizer for both food crops and horticultural plants. The method employed in this activity is a participatory approach, wherein a team including Community and Student Service Learning Program (KKN) participants and local community members actively collaborate in fostering good cooperation between extension workers and farmers. The primary target audience of this training is farming communities engaged in plantation, food crops, and horticultural cultivation. The outcomes of this community service activity include increased awareness of how to utilize cattle manure waste (Bos Taurus). This process requires minimal investment as cattle waste, sawdust, and rice husks are all freely available materials, thus serving as a substitute for inorganic fertilizers which contain chemical substances and are environmentally unfriendly.

Objective: We used microbiology and molecular biology techniques to screen out high temperature and low temperature resistant saprobiotics for compost and prepared a compound fermentation bacteria agent to rapidly ferment cattle manure into high-quality organic fertilizer in low temperature season.Methods: Conventional composting and high-throughput techniques were used to analyze the changes of physical and chemical indexes and biodiversity in the process of composting, from which high and low temperature resistant strains were obtained, and high temperature and low temperature resistant solid composite bactericides were prepared and added to composting to verify the effects of composite bactericides on composting.Results: The conventional composting cycle took 22 days, and the diversity of micro ora increased rst and then decreased. Composting temperature and microbial population were the key factors for the success or failure of composting. Two strains of high temperature tolerant bacteria and 6 strains of low temperature resistant bacteria were screened out and they were e cient in degrading starch, cellulose and protein. The high temperature and low temperature resistant solid bacterial agent were successfully prepared with adjuvant. The preparation could make the compost temperature rise quickly at low temperature, the high temperature lasted for a long time, the water content, C/N and organic matter fell quickly, and the contents of total phosphorus and total potassium were increased, and the seed germination index was signi cantly improved. Improve the composting effect. Conclusion:The solid composite bacterial agent can shorten the composting time at low temperature, and improve the composting e ciency and quality.
