Abstract: The Wuhan Pre/Post-Natal Twin Birth Registry (WPTBR) is one of the largest twin birth registries with comprehensive medical information in China. It recruits women from the first trimester of pregnancy and their twins from birth. From January 2006 to May 2016, the total number of twins enrolled in WPTBR is 13,869 twin pairs (27,553 individuals). The WPTBR initiated the Wuhan Twin Birth Cohort (WTBC). “…Because of the difficulties in recruitment, investigation, and follow-up of the pedigrees, there are only several extended-pedigreebased studies in the world, such as Nigerian families and Oman families (29, 33). In China, other types of family-based studies have been carried out to explore genetic risk factors, for example, twin studies enrolling monozygotic and dizygotic twins, sibling studies enrolling pairs of siblings with different disease statuses, and nuclear family studies enrolling case-parent trios (34)(35)(36)(37). In the present study, we initiated FTPC to enroll the extended pedigrees with multigenerations.…”

“…WMCHMIS links information on maternal demographic characteristics, medical history, prenatal examinations and delivery information from all the maternal and child health agencies, midwifery hospitals and community health centers in Wuhan (including city and rural areas). Data were prospectively collected from the first prenatal visit (usually during the 1st trimester) to delivery by trained personals and underwent strict quality control procedure, and details of the system have been described previously [23]. Women who delivered a single infant (live or dead) at ≥ 20 gestational weeks between 1 January 2011 and 31 December 2016 were included (n=627,548).…”
