“…The coordination geometry around phosphorus is distorted tetrahedra with bond angles ranging between 105.3(1)°and 117.6°. The phosphorus and selenium bond lengths (2.152 and 2.172 Å ) within the selenophosphinite unit are intermediate between single (P-Se 2.20(8) Å ) [6] and double (P@Se 2.072(2) Å ) [10] bonds. These bond lengths strongly suggest a delocalization of negative charge over the PSe 2 unit.…”

“…The synthesis of Na x E y involves the reaction between sodium metal and selenium in liquid ammonia (À78°C). It was reported by Woollins and co-workers that such reactions give a mixture of products as well as un-reacted sodium metal, and authors have suggested that the reaction between Na x E y and Ph 2 P(Se)Cl is irreproducible [6]. However, they did report the X-ray single crystal structure of [Na 2 (Se 2 PPh 2 ) 2 AETH- (3)).…”

“…However, this synthesis method has the drawback of using highly toxic H 2 Se gas in the process of making NaSeH. Using a slightly different route, Pilkington was successful in structurally characterizing a diselenophosphinato complex Na 2 [Ph 2 PSe 2 ] 2 -THF·5H 2 O for the very first time [39]. The complex was prepared by reaction of Ph 2 PCl with the mixture of Na and Se in liquid NH 3 at −78 • C. This synthetic scheme is however, not reproducible.…”

“…Only a few diselenophosphinates have been reported in the literature so far [17][18][19][20]. The compounds 7 and 9 are new diselenophosphinates having a heterocyclic ring attached to the phosphorus.…”
