The Xi Jinping Doctrine and the Idea of China's Peaceful Coexistence in the Fragile Post-2022 Context

Abstract

This chapter approaches the Xi Jinping Doctrine from various perspectives. It discusses China's soft and smart power initiatives that aim to project China's power worldwide. On the one hand, it assesses the efficiency of its mostly peaceful global initiatives, such as the One Belt One Road initiative, which the Russian war in Ukraine and other global challenges, such as the pandemic, have significantly weakened. Meanwhile, the effectiveness of China's regional policies is assessed in the context of Sino-Indian competition in Kashmir and its aim for dominance over Taiwan, Hong Kong, Tibet, and the South China Sea. Finally, this chapter also discusses various hybrid and sharp power policies employed in disputed territories in the South China Sea and other blue water territories, particularly the Paracel Islands and the Spratly Islands, and the impact of these policies on neighboring countries.
