The Yields of Some Grignard Reagents. Alternating Properties of Normal Alkyl Bromides

Abstract: it still would not affect seriously our conclusions in view of the experiment (described above) on benzylmagnesium chloride, F-chlorotoluene and carbon dioxide. The tests with the several benzoic acids are sufficiently important to warrant further study, and we are collecting samples of benzoic acid which (as well as we can determine) are free of any hereditary and acquired taint of halogen.Benzylmagnesium Chloride and Cupric Chloride.-From the reaction carried out in the customary manner14 between 0.3 mole of… Show more

“…-Naphthyl bromide was reinvestigated and was found to yield the desired ester in 64% yield as compared to the previously reported 45%. The much lower yield (34%) obtained with <3-bromonaphthalene is consistent with other work reported on the relative usefulness of these two isomers in the Grignard reaction (21).…”

“…Further purification of the products was by recrystallization from the mixed solvent CH 2 Cl 2 /petroleum ether. (μ-RS)(μ- p -MeC 6 H 4 SO 2 S)Fe 2 (CO) 6 (R = Et, t-Bu), μ-S 2 Fe 2 (CO) 6 , μ-Se 2 Fe 2 (CO) 6 , RMgX (R = Et, Me, Ph), and PhC⋮CMgBr were prepared according to literature methods. Elemental selenium was of commercial origin.…”
