Theoretical and Experimental Investigations on 20 Inches Threaded Casing Connections Failure under Field Conditions

Abstract: This paper brings forward the results of theoretical and experimental investigations performed to determine the causes that led to the failure of 20 inches threaded casing connections during the tubing of the Lupşa Sat No. 1 oil well, Romania. The failure occurred due to the breakout of the threaded casing connections assembled in the factory. In order to establish the main causes of failure, theoretical investigations were taken into consideration to highlight the influence of the thread element errors on the… Show more

“…As can be seen, the pipe was subjected to different compressive forces from the testing machine, thus determining the maximum values in the moment of fracture (Figure 6) of the pipe material under the influence of compressive forces [8,9]. The obtained data are shown in Table I.…”

“…The evolution curves of the density are similar to the curves for E(r). The calculation of structures from FGMs raises a series of difficulties, caused by the variation of material properties, even if the variation occurs according to a known law [12][13][14]. To overcome certain challenges, this study introduced two calculus concepts disclosed in the following case study.…”

“…Due to this deformation, there is a possibility of fluid leakage between the piston sleeve and the piston. Table III presents the principal properties of the NBR material for the first simulation [2,5,9]. The dimensions for the finite element analysis were D=133/5mm, d=80mm, and h=40mm, which impact the results obtained from the analysis.…”

“…Two, to four mud pumps are normally used in drilling rigs, mainly in turn, while others are kept as spare parts in the event of a failure at the main working pump. Sometimes the pumps are tied together to lift large amounts of mud to the surface [1][2][3][4]. Modifications to the construction type of pump are required by the drilling process, such as types 3.1, 2.2, and 6.1.…”
