Abstract: The enhancement of the molecular Raman signal in plasmon-assisted surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) results from electromagnetic and chemical mechanisms, the latter determined to a large extent by the chemical interaction between the molecules and the hosting plasmonic nanoparticles.
