Therapeutic effect of subcutaneous injection of low dose recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor on pulmonary alveolar proteinosis

Abstract: ObjectiveTo observe the efficacy of recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (rhGM-CSF) for pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP).Materials and methodsA total of 55 patients with PAP were screened at Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital between May 2014 and May 2018. Among these, 42 were diagnosed with idiopathic PAP, 24 were included in this study, 20 were treated for 6 months, and 17 were followed up for additional 6 months. All patients received a subcutaneous injection of 75μg/d GM-CSF qd f… Show more

“… 31 In analogy with SARS and MERS, fibrotic changes have indeed been recognised in autopsy studies and may be associated with increased expression of tumour growth factor beta (TGF-β) and connective tissue growth factor. 32 At this stage, it is still unclear who will recover, and who will proceed to uncontrolled cellular proliferation and persistent fibrotic remodelling.…”

“…An increasing body of literature reveals that these coronaviruses are originally zoonotic, targeting the lower respiratory tract, and causing potentially lethal inflammation in extra-pulmonary organs ( 10 ). Within two decades, there have emerged three highly pathogenic and deadly human coronaviruses: SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV, and SARS-CoV-2 ( 11 ). What started as a novel outbreak of atypical viral pneumonia in December 2019 in Wuhan, China is now officially recognized as COVID-19, with the causative virus classified as SARS-CoV-2, which expresses a genomic homology of about 80% to SARS-CoV, and lesser homology (50%) with MERS-CoV.…”

“…The growth of chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) in recent decades has changed morbidity and mortality trends and has become a problem worldwide [ 1 ]. CRDs represent a group of diseases characterised by abnormal conditions of the respiratory system, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, the most common, as well as pneumoconiosis, interstitial lung disease, and pulmonary sarcoidosis, which affect people of all ages.…”
