Therapeutic Effects of Turnera diffusa Extract Against Amitriptyline-Induced Toxic Hepatic Inflammation

Abstract: Tricyclic Antidepressants Including Amitriptyline (AMI), stop the reabsorption of norepinephrine and serotonin, so the levels of transmitters is elevated in the brain to lead to several side effects. Therefore, current study aimed to assay liver dysfunction that attended by AMI administration and monitoring of damiana Turnera diffuse role as adjuvant therapy to improving amitriptyline hepatic effects in male rats. 60 rats (adult, male, albino) were used divided into six groups (n = 10); 1st group, control; 2nd… Show more

“…In addition, they noted an improvement in the percentage of amitriptyline-induced DNA damage, evidenced by a significant reduction in DNA tail length in a comet assay in the T. diffusa-administered groups. The histopathological analysis revealed hepatocyte destruction, congestion with cellular infiltrate, and necrosis in the liver of amitriptylinetreated rats, whereas liver tissue from the co-and post-T. diffusa-administered groups showed a slight improvement in hepatocyte structure and only slight congestion [40].…”

“…The activity of AST and ALT and ALP were determined and Serum albumin was calculated using the suggested methodology, and total protein concentration was calculated using the suggested previous methodology [15]. Serum urea and creatinine concentration were measured using a commercial kit that Diamond, an Egyptian company, provided according to [16].…”
