The utilization of living organisms for the creation of inorganic nanoscale particles is a potential new development in the realm of biotechnology. An essential milestone in the realm of nanotechnology is the process of creating dependable and environmentally acceptable metallic nanoparticles. Due to its increasing popularity and ease, use of ambient biological resources is quickly becoming more significant in this field of study. The phrase “green nanotechnology” has gained a lot of attention and refers to a variety of procedures that eliminate or do away with hazardous compounds to repair the environment. Green nanomaterials can be used in a variety of biotechnological sectors such as medicine and biology, as well as in the food and textile industries, wastewater treatment and agriculture field. The construction of an updated level of knowledge with utilization and a study of the ambient biological systems that might support and revolutionize the creation of nanoparticles (NPs) are presented in this article.

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are one of the main complications of diabetes and are characterized by their complexity and severity, which are frequently aggravated by overexpressed inflammatory factors and polymicrobial infections. Most dressing systems offer a passive action in the treatment of DFUs, being frequently combined with antibiotic or immunomodulatory therapies. However, in many instances due to these combined therapies' inability to properly fight microbial presence, and provide a suitable, breathable and moist environment that is also capable of protecting the site from secondary microbial invasions or further harm, aggravation of the wound state is unavoidable and lower limb amputations are necessary. Considering these limitations and knowing of the urgent demand for new and more effective therapeutic systems for DFU care that will guarantee the quality of life for patients, research in this field has boomed in the last few years. In this review, the emerging innovations in DFU dressing systems via fiber-based scaffolds modified with bioactive compounds have been compiled; data focused on the innovations introduced in the last five years (2017–2022). A generalized overview of the classifications and constraints associated with DFUs healing and the bioactive agents, both antimicrobial and immunomodulatory, that can contribute actively to surpass such issues, has also been provided.

Quercetin, a flavonoid found in fruits and vegetables, has been a part of human diets for centuries. Its numerous health benefits, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and anticancer properties, have been extensively studied. Its strong antioxidant properties enable it to scavenge free radicals, reduce oxidative stress, and protect against cellular damage. Quercetin’s anti-inflammatory properties involve inhibiting the production of inflammatory cytokines and enzymes, making it a potential therapeutic agent for various inflammatory conditions. It also exhibits anticancer effects by inhibiting cancer cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis. Finally, quercetin has cardiovascular benefits such as lowering blood pressure, reducing cholesterol levels, and improving endothelial function, making it a promising candidate for preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases. This review provides an overview of the chemical structure, biological activities, and bioavailability of quercetin, as well as the different delivery systems available for quercetin. Incorporating quercetin-rich foods into the diet or taking quercetin supplements may be beneficial for maintaining good health and preventing chronic diseases. As research progresses, the future perspectives of quercetin appear promising, with potential applications in nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, and functional foods to promote overall well-being and disease prevention. However, further studies are needed to elucidate its mechanisms of action, optimize its bioavailability, and assess its long-term safety for widespread utilization.
