Therapeutic value of oral supplementation with melon superoxide dismutase and wheat gliadin combination

Abstract: Dietary antioxidant supplementation has been popular in Western countries. Various supplements have been developed in recent years, and research has been gathered from both animal and clinical research trials. In this review, the therapeutic value of oral administration of a combination of melon superoxide dismutase (SOD) and a vegetable polymer (gliadin) is evaluated. Critical examination of the effects of SOD-gliadin supplementation is carried out, with an emphasis on its impact on oxidative stress levels an… Show more

“…14 A combination of Cucumis melo extract and wheat gliadin increases endogenous antioxidant levels and also promoted the cellular defences by strengthening the antioxidant status, may also be useful in the treatment of endometriosis. 15 We are interested in researching three potential antioxidant sources: Kebar grass, green tea and the combination of melon superoxide dismutase and wheat gliadin (Glisodin). Kebar grass is one of Indonesia's medicinal plants originally from Papua and traditionally used as fertilising support since a long time ago.…”

“…We thought they could be used as alternative therapies for endometriosis. 19 This research examined endometriosis mice models fed with Kebar grass extract (KGE), green tea extract (GTE) or Cucumis melo extract and wheat gliadin combination (CME-gliadin) for 14 days, compared with the control group without any treatment. We used mice in this experiment because the existing research on KGE as an alternative therapy for endometriosis is still limited.…”

“…Oral formulations, in the form of coated gastroresistant tablets and capsules, allow SAM irritating activity on the gastric mucosa to be overcome, also hiding its unpleasant taste. SOD is widely used as nutritional supplements to contrast oxidative stress and ROS, with no side effects reported [ 48 ]. Nutritional lifestyle regulates the intake and bioavailability of metabolites and cofactors.…”

“…When mice received this it was found to promote antioxidant defenses in the brain and to prevent stress induced impairment of memory and in other animal studies, it was concluded that supplementation with gliadin-combined standardized melon SOD extract (Glisodin) promoted the cellular antioxidant status and protected against oxidative stress-induced cell death [45,46]. No concrete conclusions have been made about the health benefits of human SOD-2 supplementation and studies thus far all state that much larger studies are needed [47].…”
