Abstract:Due to a growing number of immunosuppressed patients after organ transplantation or antineoplastic chemotherapy, the significance of fungal infections has increased worldwide. In the future a large number of clinical studies with regard to genetically engineered vaccines - based on already performed pre-clinical investigations - will be conducted. However, classic vaccines might be of limited efficacy in fungal infections since fungi elicit primarily cellular immune responses.
