Therapy for Cerebral Ischemic Injury with Erythropoietin-Containing Nanoparticles

Abstract: In this study we prepared nanocarrier of erythropoietin (EPO) and the curative effect of the EPO-containing nanoparticles for periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) model was validated. It was demonstrated that EPO-containing nanoparticles can ameliorate drug-induced liquefaction caused by hypoxia. EPO-containing nanomedicine may open new therapeutic strategies in hypoxia cure.

“…These formulations contain chemotherapeutic agents inside the vehicle, resulting in better drug penetration into tumor tissue and less toxicity. Biodegradable polymeric nanoparticles are often used to achieve controlled release of drugs in advanced anticancer drug delivery systems 6366. Further, some biodegradable polymer-derived drug delivery systems, such as nanoparticles delivering anticancer agents, are commercially available 67.…”

“…Recently, the nano-sized preparations 1 have attracted much attention due to the ability of nanoparticles, [2][3][4] nanocapsules, 5-6 micelles 7-9 and liopsomes 10 to act as a nanoreservoir for a variety of therapeutic agents including macromolecule drugs [11][12][13] and small molecular drugs. [14][15][16] Thereinto, amphiphilic copolymers micellar carriers with hydrophobic inner core has been widely investigated during the last two decades.…”

“…After transient intrauterine ischemia, Epo reduces white matter injury as evidenced by myelin preservation in neonatal rats (Mazur et al, 2010). In addition, Epo-containing nanoparticles can ameliorate drug-induced liquefaction in a model of PVL (He et al, 2010).…”
