Therapy of sinuorbital aspergillosis with amphotericin B colloidal dispersion

Abstract: Invasive aspergillosis is a feared complication in the management of patients with malignancies. We report a 13-year-old boy with acute myelogenous leukaemia and chronic sinusitis who developed a sinuorbital fungal infection during cytostatic and prolonged antibiotic treatment. The clinical findings, diagnostic measures and treatment and its adverse effects are described and discussed. Special emphasis is given to our experience of the use of colloidal dispersed amphotericin B (Amphocil).
