Thermal and spectroscopic properties of light lanthanides (III) and sodium complexes of 2,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid

Abstract: Pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid, known as isocinchomeric acid is one of six isomers containing two carboxylic groups. Light lanthanide (III) complexes with pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid with general formula Ln 2 L 3 ÁnH 2 O, where n = 8, 9, were obtained. Their thermal and spectroscopic properties were studied. Sodium salt was obtained as Na 2 LÁH 2 O. Hydrated complexes of La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III), Eu(III) and Gd(III) are stable to 313-333 K, whereas Na 2 LÁH 2 O is stable to about 333 K. D… Show more

“…In the spectrum of Na 2 PDC, the strong band at about 1587 cm −1 has been assigned to stretching asymmetric vibrations of carboxylate groups. [26] It is obvious from XRD analysis (Figure 2c), a single-phase Na 2 PDC compound is obtained during synthesis with no impurity peaks; the XRD pattern is also consistent with the simulated pattern (see more details later) following from the ab initio optimized structure. There is no characteristic band for carboxylic group from the acid precursor at about 1712 cm −1 , what indicates that coordination processes took place in each compound.…”

“…It is evident from thermogravimetric analysis (TGA; Figure b), that Na 2 PDC is stable up to 510 °C, showing its robust thermal stability over its precursor acid. At 573 °C, further decomposition takes place forming sodium carbonate as the final decomposition product . It is obvious from XRD analysis (Figure c), a single‐phase Na 2 PDC compound is obtained during synthesis with no impurity peaks; the XRD pattern is also consistent with the simulated pattern (see more details later) following from the ab initio optimized structure.…”

“…This work is part of our systematic study on different series of lanthanide(III) aromatic pyridinedicarboxylates. Recently a systematic study on lanthanide(III) 2,4-pyridinedicarboxylates [35], 2,5-pyridinedicarboxylates [36] and 3,5-pyridinedicarboxylates have been carried out [37].…”
