Thermal behavior of new polymer electrolytes

Abstract: Solid polymer electrolytes (SPE) have been identified as a class of materials which could enable the fabrication of high energy density solid state lithium rechargeable batteries which could meet the performance requirements for advanced portable electronic and automotive applications. In order to achieve this goal, novel SPE systems having high ionic conductivity and good mechanical properties at or near ambient temperature must be developed. Novel lithium salts believed to be useful in realizing this object… Show more

“…In other words, the modulus decreases due to change of structure, whereas the activation energy for entanglement dynamics increases due to the ionic cross-linking of the ether units in the PEO backbone (PEO-ion complexation). The latter result aligns with other literature reports, such as the increase of PEO T g with increasing salt content. The activation energy from XPCS was about 1 order of magnitude higher than that from rheology for all the salt concentrations studied.…”

“…Lee and Crist13 reported the phase behavior of PEO/NaSCN mixtures, which showed a eutectic point. Fauteux and coworkers14–16 extensively studied the phase behaviors of binary solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) systems such as PEO/LiX [X = CF 3 SO 3, ClO 4, AsF 6, N(CF 3 SO 2 ) 2, or C(CF 3 SO 3 ) 3] and PEO/NaI.…”
