Thermal Conductivity of a Nanoscale Yttrium Iron Garnet Thin-Film Prepared by the Sol-Gel Process

Abstract: The thermal conductivity of a nanoscale yttrium iron garnet (Y3Fe5O12, YIG) thin-film prepared by a sol-gel method was evaluated using the ultrafast pump-probe technique in the present study. The thermoreflectance change on the surface of a 250 nm thick YIG film, induced by the irradiation of femtosecond laser pulses, was measured, and curve fitting of a numerical solution for the transient heat conduction equation to the experimental data was performed using the finite difference method in order to extract th… Show more

“…Figure 1 shows the XRD patterns Y1-xNdxFe5Y12 (x = 0.0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.8) samples. The relevant peaks for garnet structure (400), (420), and (422) are sharply reflected, , as matched by ICSD reference code 980021229, 980064818, and 980064820, each possessing a cubic crystal structure and belonging to space group Ia-3d [1,7,8]. The substitution of Nd 3+ ion to Y 3+ ion position resulted in strains induced in the lattice.…”

“…The movement of a delay line, which was a retroreflective mirror mounted on a motorized linear stage, was configured to have time steps of 2.7 ps/pt and 0.5 ps/pt for the thermal and ultrasonic responses, respectively. A detailed schematic of the optical setup is presented elsewhere [ 7 ]. Each sample was measured three times at the same spot and the results were averaged.…”

“…5,6 Among all the magneto-optical crystals, yttrium iron garnet (Y 3 Fe 5 O 12 , abbreviated as YIG) crystal has attracted significant attention in the near-infrared (NIR) and mid-infrared (MIR) bands due to its excellent magneto-optical properties. 7,8 The commercial YIG crystals are reported to possess high Faraday rotation angle (FRA) at 1310 nm (220°/cm) and 1550 nm (180°/cm). 9 Compared to pure YIG crystals, rare earth-doped YIG crystals are expected to have better magnetooptical and magnetic properties.…”

“…Magneto-optical isolators are widely used in industrial lasers, optical communications, large data transmission, and other fields due to their simple structure, reliable, and stable performance. The magneto-optical crystal is the core component that determines the performance of the isolator . In the past few years, with the continuous expansion of industrial laser applications, higher demands have been placed on the performance and size of magneto-optical crystals. , Among all the magneto-optical crystals, yttrium iron garnet (Y 3 Fe 5 O 12 , abbreviated as YIG) crystal has attracted significant attention in the near-infrared (NIR) and mid-infrared (MIR) bands due to its excellent magneto-optical properties. , …”
