Thermal conductivity of a polymer composite

Abstract: SYNOPSISA prediction equation for thermal conductivity of polymer composites reported in our previous papers has been revised in terms of two view points: ( 1) estimation of thermal conductivity of a composite using an idea of reduced thermal conductivity; and ( 2 ) the effect of ease in forming conductive filler chains on thermal conductivity is related to the CVF value in electric conductivity of the composite. The new equation was confirmed to be adaptable to thermal conductivities of varieties of polymer c… Show more

“…Heat does not spread like waves as well as in the crystalline polymers. The thermal conduction is random and slow, resulting in low λ value [79]. Figure 11 shows the schematic diagram for thermally conductive mechanism of the amorphous polymers.…”

“…Vertical double percolation (VDP), 9) a honeycomb-like structure, 10) and self-assembly 11) techniques have been applied to the controlled assembly of 1-D and 2-D nanofillers. VDP and selfassembly alter the interactions between fillers by controlling their electrical or chemical properties, whereas the honeycomb-like technique uses polymer balls as a matrix to facilitate the physical separation of domains between the polymer and inorganic boron nitride (BN) fillers prior to thermal treatment.…”

“…1)18) The composite materials used for insulation in electronic devices are required to possess high thermal conductivity for heat dissipation. 4), 5) Therefore, highly thermally conductive ceramic particles, such as alumina (Al 2 O 3 ), 3),6)8) boron nitride (BN), 9)14) and aluminum nitride (AlN) 14)18) have been widely used in these applications. Among these, AlN particles have been particularly studied because of their particularly high thermal conductivity.…”
