Thermal Desorption Spectroscopy Study on the Hydrogen Behavior in a Plasma-Charged Aluminum

Abstract: Hydrogen in aluminum has been known to be the cause of blister and pore. Some aluminum alloy is susceptible to stress corrosion cracking, which is based on intergranular cracking arisen from hydrogen embrittlement. The behavior of hydrogen in aluminum has not been fully understood yet. Hydrogen gas plasma enables to introduce high hydrogen concentrations into specimen without Al (OH)3 layer on the surface of specimen. In this paper, we have investigated the behavior of hydrogen in a plasma charged aluminum by … Show more

“…In aluminum, it has been reported that larger amount of hydrogen can be charged using plasma hydrogen charging method than using electrolytical hydrogen charging. 22) In this study, the experimental procedures will be approximately the same as in the authors study carried out before 21,[23][24][25] but charging method will be changed to plasma hydrogen charging. It will be expected that the amount of charged hydrogen will be increased by changing the method, leading to the more marked tendency of HE, which then will help us reveal the mechanism of HE, since it is generally accepted that the higher the concentration of hydrogen, the larger the effects of hydrogen.…”
