Thermal-image generation by line-scanning technique: a new computer model

Abstract: A new computer model for the generation of thermal images of a flat terrain by the line-scanning technique from a moving platform is presented. The model is based on a bottom-up simulation process and the pixel-by-pixel generation of infrared thermal images. The terrain is modeled by a periodic repetition of an arbitrary two-dimensional temperature distribution over a flat area. The double discrete Fourier series of the terrain temperature, including correlation length and the transfer function of the scanning… Show more

“…In our previous works we investigated basic line-scanning effects, atmosphere radiation I1nd attenuation role in the three characteristic cases for different ratios of average atmosphere \0 ground temperature [5], and isolated influence scene parameters to the statistical properties of thermal images in the two extreme cases for uncorrelated and correlated terrain background 11]. In this paper we are continuing the investigation of isolated line-scanning effects in case of !llmple objects on correlated terrain temperature distribution and without the influence of I'ltrnosphere.…”

“…As is known, the radiance from scene has three components: radiation of objects or background, atmospheric radiation and reflection of radiation of the Sun and stars, as well as reflection of man-made sources from the scene [2]. Schematic representation of mapping object plane xoy in the image plane x 1 oy 1 and radiation components of scene are shown on Fig 1. From Fig.1 it can be seen that the object and surroundings are located in the field of view of thermal imaging camera, which are replicated in thermal image by integration of radiance of terrain by spatial viewing angle of thermal imaging camera.…”
