Thermal, morphological and mechanical properties of glass fiber reinforced star‐branched polyamide 6

Abstract: Using star‐branched polyamide 6 (SPA6) with hexafunctional cyclotriphosphazene core as a matrix resin and glass fiber (GF) as a reinforcing material, star‐branched polyamide 6/glass fiber (SPA6/GF) composites with different GF content were prepared by melt‐compounding method. The star‐branched structure of SPA6 and GF content have great effects on the properties of SPA6/GF composites. Compared with linear polyamide 6 (LPA6), SPA6 with star‐branched structure has low viscosity, high melt flowability and good im… Show more

“…PA6 is widely used as a matrix for composite materials because it is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic, which has high hardness, impact resistance, excellent chemical properties, and heat resistance. [30][31][32] In addition, glass fiber (GF) and glass beads (GBs) are well-suitable as reinforced materials for composite materials because they are low density, excellent chemical and thermal stability. 33 In this paper, the synergistic reinforcement effect between particles and fibers is demonstrated by continuous GF with GBs co-reinforced nylon 6 (GB-GF/PA6) composites.…”

“…Ethene‐maleic anhydride‐glycidyl methacrylate copolymer (EMG) could increase the tensile strength of PA6/PET/GF composites [ 20 ] by about 111.2%, and ethyl acrylate‐glycidyl methacrylate copolymer (EAG) could increase the impact strength of the composites with 30 wt% GF by about 25.49%. Star‐branched PA6/glass fiber (GF/SPA6) composites exhibited excellent mechanical properties and high melt flowability than traditional GFRP materials, [ 21 ] when the GF content was up to 60 wt%, the tensile strength, Young's modulus, bending strength, and impact strength of GF/SPA6 composites was improved by about 56.35%, 123.63%, 72.40%, and 74.93%, respectively.…”

“…Polyamide 6 (PA6) as an excellent engineering plastic that has been widely investigated and applied in automotive, electrical, packaging, and other industrial fields due to its lightweight, good mechanical properties, excellent chemical resistance, outstanding processability, and low cost [1][2][3][4][5]. With the rising demand for products in diversified markets, the single pure PA6 resin cannot meet all the requirements.…”
