Thermal properties of aluminized and non-aluminized basalt fabrics

Abstract: The aim of this study was to characterize modified basalt fabrics as semi-finished articles for application in personal protective equipment (PPE), i.e. protective gloves. Resistance to the thermal properties for three fabrics made of basalt fibers differed in the aspect of mass per square meter and thickness as well as for the aluminized modifications presented. The modifications were obtained by gluing aluminum foil to the fabric with two kinds of glue. The results of the measurements are presented in the fo… Show more

“…Nevertheless, these bars are costly and also not resistant to alkalis. e high mechanical performance/price ratio of basalt bre composite bar, combined with the corrosion resistance to alkaline attack, advocates replacing steel in concrete with basalt bre composite bars [27,28,[31][32][33][34].…”

“…Due to the planned application of the modified basalt fabrics in the palm part of the protective glove, the main task of our research is to improve their resistance to when they come in contact with heat and ensure that after cracking, basalt fibers do not cause the skin irritation. [4][5][6] Our research continues on the optimization of the construction of protective gloves, with the use of new materials and modern technologies, which can ensure high strength and good barrier properties of the final product. [3] In order to improve thermal properties, and above of all, the resistance to contact heat, microstructural coatings were deposited on the surface of the basalt fabric.…”

“…Nomex, PPS, P84, and basalt fibers have great high-temperature resistance and thermal stability, which were widely used in the fields of thermal insulation [3,6,7]. In the past few years, many studies have discussed about the thermal protective performance of Nomex, basalt woven fabric, and the thermal stability of PPS and P84 fibers [4,[8][9][10][11]. However, less work was concerned about the thermal protective properties of nonwoven fabric when exposed to environments of intense heat, especially when comparing the thermal protective performance of these nonwoven fabrics.…”
