Thermal treatment of moroccan phosphogypsum

Abstract: Abstract. Phosphogypsum (PG) is produced as a by-product during treatment of phosphate rock with sulphuric acid to produce phosphoric acid according to the following simplified reaction:Ca 10 (PO 2 ) 6 F 2 + 10H 2 SO 4 + 20H 2 O → 6H 3 PO 4 + 2HF + 10(CaSO 4 .2H 2 O) Minerai Phosphogypse PG is mainly CaSO 4 ·2H 2 O but also contains impurities such as free phosphoric acid, phosphates, fluorides and organic matter that adhere to the surface of the gypsum crystals. Phosphogypsum is discharged directly to the Sea… Show more

“…The major constituents of phosphogypsum are similar to those of FGD gypsum, but contain more impurities such as SiO 2 , free H 3 PO 4 , phosphates, and organic matter [30]. The sulfur content of FGD gypsum and phosphogypsum was 12.54-22.39 wt% and 12.40-22.80 wt%, respectively, showing similar ranges.…”
