Thermal, water absorption, and mechanical characterizations of polylactide based nanocomposites: Comparison between sodium and modified montmorillonite as reinforcement materials

Abstract: The research on the polymer silicate layer nanocomposites is currently focusing on maximizing the polymer-filler interface interaction. This study aimed to elucidate the effect of two different types of montmorillonite (MMT), which were Cloisite sodium (CNa) and Cloisite 10A (C10A), on the thermal, water absorption, and mechanical performances of polylactide (PLA) nanocomposites.Nanocomposites with different clay loadings from 1 to 7 wt% were fabricated by melt intercalation in a twin-screw extruder. XRD analy… Show more

“…The rHDPE and rPET composition was fixed at a composition ratio of 75/25 (wt%) [4], whereas the Cloisite 10A and MWCNT loading were varied at 1, 2, 4 and 6 phr, respectively. The range of nanofiller content was determined based on the literature [24,25]. The rHDPE, rPET and nanofiller were melt-blended via co-rotating screw extruder (Thermo Prism TSE 16PC) with the temperature profiles of 190 ℃, 240 ℃, 270 ℃, and 250 ℃.…”

“…This technology can be used in all areas of science, and so nanotechnology is a multidisciplinary technology [ 5 , 6 , 7 ]. Nanotechnology effectively addresses products with at least one aspect in the nanometer spectrum [ 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 ]. Nanotechnology involves buildings and systems with fresh characteristics owing to the configuration of their atoms [ 12 , 13 , 14 ].…”
