Thermodynamic analysis of energy storage supported multigeneration system

Abstract: This article investigates the thermodynamic performance of a solar‐powered integrated multigeneration system with thermal storage. It aims at evaluating the effect of thermal storage on the overall performance of a multigeneration system. A solar heliostat field system, thermal energy storage, Rankine power cycle, electrolyzer, and a double effect absorption chiller make up the multigeneration system. Energy and exergy analyses of the system are performed, and the energy and exergy efficiencies are found to be… Show more

“…The sensible heat is associated with the materials that do not change their phase (solid to liquid or gas), and latent heat is associated with phase-changing materials/substances. The amount of thermal energy stored by any medium can be expressed as follows [47,48].…”

“…Various solid and liquid materials can be used to store sensible heat, as depicted in Figure 2. Among all, water is the cheapest one [48,49]. Based on temperature range, magnesia fire bricks are selected for thermal storage.…”

“…The progressive global trend in CSP generation is shown between 2009 and 2018, while the Indian scenario of CSP generation is shown between 2011 and 2018 as per IRENA 2019 reports. With many new projects under‐ construction and development, it is sure that CSP with thermal energy storage (TES) is a stiff competitor to fossil fuel‐based power generation units 8‐14 …”
