Thermodynamic, Nonlinear Kinetic, and Isotherm Studies of Bisphenol A Uptake onto Chemically Activated Carbons Derived from Safou (Dacryodes edulis) Seeds

Abstract: The interest of this work is to evaluate the possibility of using safou seeds to develop a new low-cost adsorbent and study its application to remove bisphenol A from an aqueous solution for a sustainable and ecological use of this biomass. This was done by optimizing some parameters that influence the adsorption process. The central composite design with four centre points was used to optimize the process variables. The concentration of bisphenol A solution, adsorbent dosage, stirring time, and solution pH on… Show more

“…It is a great alternative for optimizing the preparation of ACs because it allows maximum information to be extracted with little experimentation. RSM is also a statistical tool that provides information on the synergistic and antagonistic effects of different variables during a process [21]. This is why the Box-Behnken design of the RSM was used to obtain maximum information with minimal experiments.…”

“…The optimization of ACs has long been done in a classical manner, therefore, requiring more experience and giving less information such as the effect of interactions between the different variables on the desired yield. In fact, varying the parameters in turn leads to a loss of time and chemical reagents [21]. Response surface methodology (RSM) is an alternative that saves time and better predicts results.…”

“…There are many depollution techniques used to eliminate pollutants in aqueous solution such as degradation using photo-fenton or photocatalytic [10] process, precipitation, ultrafiltrationcomplexation [11], ion exchange membranes [12], coagulation-floculation [13]and adsorption which are done on adsorbents such as Clays, metal-organics framework and activated carbon [7,14]. Due to its easy implementation, relatively low cost and high efficiency, adsorption is the most popular technique in developing countries [15].…”

“…The continued release of these recalcitrant compounds into the environment leads to long-term accumulation in the ecosystem. Once released and accumulated in different environments, these potentially toxic substances can be absorbed by living organisms, accumulate in biological tissues and harm the health of living organisms in the polluted environment [6,7]. In addition, the interactions between these polluted ecosystems and living beings lead to harmful effects, given the nuisances that these pollutants can cause.…”
