“…3, is equal to 1.785 J/(mol K) and 1.538 J/(mol K), which gives for the latent heat the values of 466 J/mol and 541 J/mol for 6CB + 3CyP5 and 7CP mixtures, respectively. The values of ∆H obtained in our experiment, although very approximate, are situated within the limits of the values obtained with the calorimetric methods for the nematic to the isotropic phase transition of pure 6CB (from 896 J/mol [10] to 293 J/mol [11]). Figures 4a and 5a present temperature dependences of the shear viscosity of the solutions studied.…”

“…The entropy jump ∆S 0 NI , estimated from the data presented in the figure, is equal to 1.66 J/(mol K), which gives for the latent heat (∆H 0 NI ) T NI S 0 NI ), the value of about 0.5 kJ/mol. This value is situated within the limits of those obtained with the calorimetric methods for the I-N transition in pure 6CB (from 0.3 kJ/mol 6 to 0.9 kJ/mol 14 ). So, the presented results clearly show that an analysis of the phase diagram, which, in principle can be obtained in a simple way, can lead to quite important thermodynamic conclusions concerning the nature of the I-N phase transition.…”
