The results of studies of materials of high and higher refractoriness for the cowper heater of high-temperature pulsed installations are presented. It is shown that long-term operation of corundum refractories (up to one and a half years) at temperatures of 1750‒1800 °C slightly changes the thermophysical properties of the material. Тhe materials and designs of the elements of the packing and lining of the cowper heater for different layers and temperatures are selected. The velocity of the gas flow, which ensures the fixed position of the ball nozzle, is determined. Efficient packing design improves heat transfer and reduces the size of the cowper column by a factor of 3,75.
