Thermophysical Properties of Acetone or Methanol + n-Alkane (C9 to C12) Mixtures

Abstract: Liquid-liquid equilibria for methanol + n-alkanes (C 9 to C 12 ) were determined in the temperature range (278.15 to 308.15 K), using a visual static method. Densities, refractive indices, and speeds of sound were also measured at 288.15, 298.15, and 308.15 K for acetone + n-alkane mixtures and at 298.15 and 308.15 K for methanol + n-alkane mixtures to study the temperature influence on mixing phenomena. The results were used to model liquid-liquid coexistence and derived properties trend. The calculated value… Show more

“…This fact could be more clearly observed by the predicted immiscibility by the non-symmetric tendency towards the (methyl acetate + n-alkane) linear mixture, which estimates the liquid-liquid equilibria for these binary mixtures at low temperatures. On the contrary, these binary mixtures show a homogeneous experimental trend over the whole range of temperatures [7].…”

“…Aminabhavi and co-workers [1][2][3][4][5][6] have studied molecular interactions and thermodynamic properties of several binary mixtures of different types of liquids as first components with n-alkanes as the second component. Binary mixtures containing different alkanes with a variety of organic liquids, have been extensively studied by different authors [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14], with respect to different properties. Different excess properties of binary mixtures containing methylcyclohexane as one of the components with a variety of liquids have also been studied by a large number of researchers [15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22].…”

“…So, the design of an effective remediation strategy for the contamination of air, ground, and surface water with halogenated aromatic compounds of different nature, physical, chemical, and biodegradation potential of each contaminant must be researched. we have conducted in the last few years systematic studies on the thermodynamic properties of mixtures related to industrial processes [1][2][3][4], food technology [5,6], or pharmacological mixtures [7,8].…”
