Thermophysiological comfort of zinc oxide nanoparticles coated woven fabrics

Abstract: This study investigates physicochemical impact of ultrasonic irradiations on surface topography of woven fabrics. In a simultaneous in-situ sonochemical method, the synthesis and coating of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) on woven textiles were successfully achieved. Different instruments i.e. Alambeta, moisture management tester, air permeability tester and permetester were utilised during experimentation for thermal evaluation, moisture transportation and air permeation. The results regarding thermophysio… Show more

“…Alkali metal silicates, hydroxides or even carbonates have been used for making an alkaline solution for the activation. However, some researchers also used NaOH or KOH in this regard [ 27 , 28 , 29 ]. During the activation process, SiO 4 and AlO 4 species were obtained as the solid aluminosilicate oxide dissolution took place and, as a result of the polycondensation reaction, an amorphous three-dimensional geopolymeric system formed.…”

“…Moreover, longer irradiation time enhances the porosity that allows nZnO to go deeper and creates a smooth layer on both fabrics. These results depict that a higher amount and a smooth coating of nZnO significantly enhance the photocatalytic performance of investigated samples [ 45 ]. It is observed from the previous literature that the structure of ZnO plays a crucial role in the augmentation of photocatalytic activity.…”
