“…Several studies have focused on thermal insulation materials to search for material optimization (Axaopoulos et al, 2019; Benallel et al, 2022; Braulio-Gonzalo and Bovea, 2017; Nematchoua et al, 2017; Özel et al, 2015) or selection (Ayyildiz and Erdogan, 2022; Civic and Vucijak, 2014; Rocchi et al, 2018; Seddiki et al, 2016; Streimikiene et al, 2020; Zhang et al, 2021a) with material type, criteria, and method variations. Özel et al (2015) studied the glass wool and rock wool thermal insulation materials by focusing on the life cycle cost and environmental impact of materials.…”

“…Axaopoulos et al (2019) focused on the optimum insulation thickness for external walls through a single objective function approach by combining the operational and embodied CO 2 levels. Benallel et al (2022) analyzed thermal insulation material’s economic and environmental parameters for different climate regions regarding the amount of energy savings and payback periods. The optimization method has been commonly used for single-objective functions or multi-objective functions with two criteria.…”

“…Their study was based on life cycle cost analysis, in which they found that the optimal insulation thickness varies significantly depending on the insulation material selected. Benallel et al [22] presented research using six Moroccan climatic regions, applying the concept of degree days and a life-cycle cost analysis to compare the economic and environmental evaluation of various thermal insulation materials integrated in the middle of a typical double wall. The results obtained show that the optimal insulation thicknesses increase with the increase in the total number of degree-days of heating and cooling; this translates into increased cost savings and a shorter payback period.…”
