Thirty-six pulse rectifier scheme based on zigzag auto-connected transformer

Abstract: Abstract:In this paper, a low kilo-volt-ampere rating zigzag connected autotransformer based 36-pulse rectifier system supplying vector controlled induction motor drives (VCIMD) is designed, modeled and simulated. Detailed design procedure and magnetic rating calculation of the proposed autotransformer and interphase reactor is studied. Moreover, the design process of the autotransformer is modified to make it suitable for retrofit applications. Simulation results confirm that the proposed 36-pulse rectifier s… Show more

“…It can be used not only as a grounding transformer in a power distribution system [16], but also as a phase-shifting transformer in a multi-pulse rectifier system. Furthermore, due to the unique characteristic of the zigzag transformer, it can block the zero-sequence current, so the zero sequence blocking transformer can be omitted in the rectifier based on the zigzag transformer [17], thereby reducing the equivalent capacity of the system further.…”

“…However, with the improvement of the power level, the switching loss and the failure rate are prominent in PWM rectifier (Ismael Araujo-Vargas et al, 2008;Sato et al, 2010). Because of its high reliability, low cost, high efficiency and simple control, multipulse rectifier has become a research hot spot in high-power rectification in recent years (Wei et al, 2012;Yang et al, 2015;Xiao-Qiang. et al, 2016).…”

“…Among various types of autotransformers, zigzag autotransformer and its reconfiguration structures are one of the results of many studies. Its main advantage is reflected in its structure which has the ability to block the zero sequence current, so that the DC side circuit does not need the zero sequence blocking transformer, which reduces the cost of the rectification system further (Xiao-Qiang. et al, 2016).…”

“…Multi-pulse rectifiers are widely applied in high power rectification for input line harmonic currents reduction [1][2][3][4][5]. The multi-pulse is referred to as the number of output voltage pulse of dc, which is more than 6 pulses during every single cycle in three-phase power supplied system.…”
