“…Further research is surely needed to attain a thorough understanding of the associations between initial stages of sensory analysis and decisiveness. The P3 amplitude was larger for the successful than for the failed stop trials; this is a common result in SST studies (e.g., De Jong et al, 1990;Dimoska, Johnstone, & Barry, 2006;Greenhouse & Wessel, 2013;Hughes et al, 2012;Overtoom et al, 2002;Senderecka, 2016Senderecka, , 2018. The mixedeffects analysis revealed that, in line with what we observed for the N1 component, stop signals evoked less pronounced P3 in highly decisive individuals in both successfully and unsuccessfully inhibited trials.…”

“…In the present study, a pronounced P3 was elicited by lowfrequency stop-signal trials of both successful and unsuccessful inhibition, which is consistent with the context-updating hypothesis for the P3 (Donchin & Coles, 2010). Moreover, the stop-P3 was enhanced for successful relative to unsuccessful inhibition over central areas, which is in line with numerous previous studies (de Jong, Coles, Logan, & Gratton, 1990;Dimoska et al, 2003;Greenhouse & Wessel, 2013;Overtoom et al, 2002;Schevernels et al, 2015;Senderecka, 2016;Senderecka, Szewczyk, Wichary, & Kossowska, 2018;Shen, Lee, & Chen, 2014;Smith & Mattick, 2013) and supports the view that the stop-P3 is associated with inhibitory processing and the success of inhibition . Importantly, no group differences were found for the stop-P3 across successful and unsuccessful trials.…”

“…As expected, sensation seeking appears to be associated with abnormal performance monitoring, as evidenced by a reduced stop-N2 for high versus low sensation seekers. As in previous studies (Dimoska et al, 2003;Kok et al, 2004;Pliszka, Liotti, & Woldorff, 2000;Ramautar et al, 2004;Schevernels et al, 2015;Senderecka, 2016), the stop-N2 was enhanced on unsuccessful relative to successful stop trials over frontocentral areas. In literature, increased stop-N2 for unsuccessful versus successful inhibition has been attributed to two explanations.…”

“…Indeed, increased top-down control is implemented if performance is incentivised or punished (Chiew & Braver, 2013;Riesel et al, 2012;Saunders et al, 2015a;Stürmer et al, 2011), when threatening images signal the need to inhibit a pre-potent response (Senderecka, 2016), after negative mood inductions (Kuhbandner & Zehetleitner, 2011; Affective neuroscience accounts of control also predict that awareness of internally generated emotional states should moderate control. Alexithymia reflects individual differences in the ability to detect and describe self-generated emotion (Taylor, Bagby, & Parker, 1999).…”
